Glass Fiber Tape Winding Reinforced Composite Pipe Production Equipment

Technical Overview

Glass Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipe (RTP) is a novel composite pipe product using glass fiber tape as reinforcement and thermoplastic resin as matrix. The core manufacturing process involves precision winding equipment that spirally wraps pre-impregnated glass fiber tape around the inner pipe surface at controlled angles and tensions to form a reinforcement layer, followed by outer layer extrusion, resulting in a composite pipe with superior mechanical properties.

The process is rooted in traditional filament winding technology, which utilizes oriented continuous fibers to bear hoop and axial stresses. Compared to conventional fixed-length winding processes, continuous winding technology offers significant advantages in mechanical properties, sealing reliability, production efficiency, and overall cost. Glass fibers and resin are uniformly distributed, dramatically improving pipe strength, stiffness, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance; online precision cutting and forming of spigot-and-socket joints effectively eliminates leakage.

Equipment Composition & Process Flow

The continuous RTP production line comprises the following core modules: inner pipe extruder and die system, vacuum sizing tank, first cooling spray box, first tractor, multi-stage winding units (including heating systems), outer pipe extruder and cladding die, second cooling spray box, second tractor, length counter, fixed-length cutter, and finished pipe racks. Computerized centralized control enables precise inner pipe weight control, synchronized traction, fully automatic pipe coiling, and multi-station automated layer control.

The complete production process includes four key stages: inner pipe extrusion and shaping → continuous composite tape winding → outer pipe extrusion cladding → cutting and warehousing.

Core Technical Advantages

Multi-Axis CNC Control System: Achieves precise winding of glass fiber tape and resin through multi-axis synchronized CNC systems, optimizing winding paths, real-time monitoring of tension and temperature, and supporting customized non-standard pipe production. Advanced four-degree-of-freedom winding equipment achieves winding accuracy up to ±0.2 mm.

Precision Tension and Angle Control: Closed-loop tension monitoring with constant tension automatic control ensures uniform reinforcement layer thickness and fiber orientation accuracy. Winding tension ranges from 1 to 100 kg, with adjustable winding angles from 0 to 90 degrees.

Network Structure Between Reinforcement Layers: Different bandwidth matching schemes are adopted based on pipe diameters, with broadband and narrowband flexible use. The tape-to-tape lapping process creates a network structure between reinforcement layers, significantly improving interlayer bonding strength and overall pressure resistance.

Application Fields

RTP pipes are widely used in: Oil & Gas Industry (oil field gathering lines, high-pressure water injection lines, natural gas transmission pipelines); Municipal Water Supply (urban water supply networks, long-distance water transmission); Chemical Corrosion Protection (chemical plant corrosive medium pipelines, acid-base-salt solution transmission); Industrial & Mining (slurry transmission, industrial circulating water, firefighting systems); New Energy (hydrogen transmission, geothermal pipelines).

Market Outlook

Industry research data shows steady growth in the global glass fiber reinforced composite pipe market. The market size is approximately USD 5.0-5.5 billion in 2025, projected to reach USD 7.2-8.1 billion by 2032, with a CAGR of 5.5%-5.7%. The Chinese market continues to grow at an average annual rate of 8.3% in recent years, driven by increasing demand in municipal water supply, chemical corrosion protection, and power telecommunications sectors.

In past 4 years ,31 RTP production line was intsalled and processing in China. 15 lines for tap (metal and nonmetal) winding pipe line and 16 lines for rope (metal and nonmetal) widing pipe line.
